I can't believe KiScon is over already - it seems like five minutes ago we were just setting up pre-registration!
As requested, I've uploaded the vid I made for the Opening Ceremony (which is also on the DVDs given out at the banquet - please shout if you were at the con and didn't get one):
I chose the end credits from Reboot for this because it blends the TOS theme into the Reboot theme, which mirrors what we tried to do with the convention.
I'm still reeling from this weekend. The sheer amount of energy was just incredible, and I was completely blown away by just how nice everyone was.
I've never run a convention from another continent before, so this was quite an experience. A good one, sure, but not one I'm likely to repeat! The con started for me on Tuesday when I landed at LAX and met up with awarrington who was on the flight before me. We had a few frantic days of setting up and collecting equipment and stuff we'd had mailed to catalenamara.
We had pre-registration on Thursday evening, and I was already completely overwhelmed by how excited everyone was. I was too tired and jet-lagged to get everything set up, so I was up and about again at 6am on Friday to set up the AV equipment and chase down the hotel staff who were supposed to have set up the rooms (a recurring theme over the weekend, alas).
I didn't get to see much of the con itself - I sat in for most of the writing sex and vid panels, which were really fun, but if anyone posts reviews of other panels please link me as I'd really like to know what actually happened at this con! I also got to watch Amok Time with a full room of K/S fans, which was so much fun.
The opening ceremony itself was probably the high point of the con for me - the energy level in the room, and seeing all the older and newer fans mixing together and the hilarity of people trying to draw rimming and model a blow job with playdoh, or act out sex in the captain's chair - I really wish we'd been filming that!
The banquet and vidshow on Saturday night was also great fun, although my green makeup didn't survive the density of ST3 vids! Some of the costumes were really spectacular, especially the Andorian who won the costume contest (I don't know if she's on LJ - any ideas?), and marymonroe's the gorgeous mirrorverse Marlena who came in second.
I met so many lovely people this weekend that I can't possibly list them all. Some of the people I really enjoyed meeting include spirktrekker42 (so exciting, as she's one of my favourite vidders), nix_this (another one I was very excited to meet for her gorgeous artwork), arminaa (who created the KiScon logo, which we pretty much used to death), seperis (who was lovely despite her traumatising knowledge of disturbing crackfic), catalenamara (who was absolutely amazing for all her help leading up to the con), inu_spockya (aka Greywolf, who was absolutely hilarious), jaylee_g (another Reboot author I was thrilled to meet, and turns out to have the most fabulous hair), zjofierose (I was so thrilled that she ended up with the Spock standee - this fandom is amazing!), herophelia (who was incredibly helpful at tearing the con down, along with her friend whose LJ name I didn't catch, sorry!), blackbird_song (who by a massive coincidence turned out to know me from a previous fandom!), plus a bunch more amazing people whose LJ names I don't know, and few I'd met already including tracionn, Caren P and Gayle F - and of course awarrington, who did an amazing job of putting up with me!
I am still so overwhelmed by the fact that so many people put their faith in an untried concom who were trying to do this from another continent, and travelled from all over the country, plus Canada and Europe, in order to be here. Thank you so much to everyone who came, and I really hope I see you all again plus more at the next con!
